“We have lost a tremendous athlete, our country one of its better sons”

NAAATT joins with the national community in mourning the unexpected and tragic passing of one its top athletes Mr. Deon Lendore. The news of Lendore’s death in a vehicular accident in Texas late on Monday has sent shockwaves across the fraternity. Despite his young age (29); he has been a regular on national teams for the past 14 years. He was an excellent quarter-miler who has contributed significantly to the country’s overall medal tally in both the individual 400m event and as part of the 4X400m relay team…

NAAATT on Saturday, 2022 January 08 hosted the first in a series of Education Webinars tagetted to key stakeholders in the sport of athletics. Saturday’s exercise focussed on the newly introduced changes to World Athletics (formerly IAAF) Competition Rules. NAAATT has launched its Athletes Welfare fund with an initial injection of $10,000.00 from current President George Comissiong, followed by contributions of $5,000.00 each from former President Ephraim Serrette and newly elected board member, CEO and founder of LUHU Inc., Zwede Hewitt.

The Athletes Welfare Fund is intended to provide short-term, emergency type funding to deserving athletes. Almost simultaneous with the Launch was the presentation of an airline ticket to Leah Bertrand, undoubtedly the country’s highest performing female athlete in the Under 20 Category for 2021. Leah also competed in the Women’s Open Category and has been unbeaten over 100m locally for the year. She has a personal best (PB) of 11.52…

In General over the last three months amateur athletes, professional athletes, coaches, officials, sponsors, suppliers and all stakeholders in Trinidad and Tobago echoed the same sentiments as our International counterparts “COVID-19 has halted virtually all formal participation in sport and exercise”.

Restrictions on travel, physical activity and mass gatherings had major implications for athletes and players. In particular restrictions on access to training venues, cancellation of events and loss of earnings may have long term implications for Elite Athletes who rely on sport as their main source of Income.

The NACAC Cross Country Championships is an annual regional cross country running competition for athletes representing member nations of the North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association.

The event was inaugurated in 2005 and was held in U.S.A, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Colombia, Venezuela and El Salvador. The 2019 Edition will be once again held in Trinidad and Tobago, Queens Park Savannah.

The North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) Senior Championships will be hosted in Toronto, Canada from the 10th to 12th of August, 2018.
