Andwuelle Wright landed just short of the eight-metre mark at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet, Tobago on Sunday, disturbing the sand at 7.97 metres to strike gold in the Kaizen Challenge men’s long jump event. The Kaizen Panthers athlete put together a solid series, also jumping 7.83m and 7.76.

Wright’s Panthers teammates, Kelsey Daniel and Kerlon Ashby earned silver and bronze, respectively. Daniel produced a 7.36m leap, while Ashby’s best jump was 6.60.

Global para athletics star Akeem Stewart outclassed his rivals in the men’s shot put, the Tobago Falcons athlete winning with a big 19.26m throw. Franklyn Stanislaus was a distant second at 12.06.

Kamaria Durant recorded an impressive sprint double. The Simplex athlete topped the women’s 100 metres field in 11.48 seconds, getting to the line ahead of teenager Ayla Stanisclaus (11.64) and the experienced Reyare Thomas (11.79). In the 200, Durant was golden in 23.14, forcing Thomas (23.89) and Stanisclaus (24.17) to settle for the minor medals.

Akanni Hislop stopped the clock at 10.48 seconds for gold in the men’s 100m dash, the Panthers sprinter finishing ahead of Jerod Elcock (10.53) and Jalen Purcell (10.62). Elcock grabbed gold for Abilene Wildcats in the 200 with a 21.10 seconds run in section two. Section one winner Dan-Neil Telesford picked up silver in 21.35.

Dwight St Hillaire topped the men’s 400m field, the Panthers quartermiler completing his lap of the track in 47.15 seconds. Onal Mitchell clocked 47.50 to seize silver. Natasha Fox triumphed in the women’s 400, the Point Fortin New Jets teen getting home in 56.75.

Another Panther, Aaron Lewis upset Ruebin Walters in the men’s 110m hurdles. Lewis was top of the class with a 14.08 seconds run, while Walters clocked 14.15 for the runner-up spot.

Alpha Athletic Club’s Akila McShine won the women’s 100m hurdles in 14.33 seconds. Safiya John finished second in 14.72. The Carifta 2019 heptathlon champion, however, would not be denied a title, the proud Panther topping the long jump field with a 5.61m leap.

Zenith’s Mark London returned a time of one minute, 54.51 seconds to top the men’s 800m field. Daniel Gibbs was second in 1:56.42.

On Saturday, at the USA Track & Field (USATF) Gulf Association Junior Olympics, in Texas, USA, Tamia Badal seized silver in the women’s 17-18 400m hurdles. The T&T athlete clocked a personal best 59.53 seconds.
