T&T’s 4×400 men’s relay team of Dwight St Hillaire, Jereem ‘The Dream’ Richards, Asa Guevara and Kashief King, on Saturday night, produced a season’s best time of 3:02.75 to book a spot into the final of the World Athletic Championships in Eugene, Oregon, USA.

That final was scheduled to take place at 10:35 pm last night.

The T&T team qualified as one of the fastest losing teams after placing fourth in heat one. The top three teams, as well as the two fastest fourth and fifth-place teams qualified for the final.

The T&T quartet was a picture of true grit and determination Saturday, following Richards’ failure to grab a medal in the 200-metres a few days ago, coupled with the country’s failure to medal at the games so far.

The United States quartet of Elija Godwin, Vernon Norwood, Bryce Deadmon and Trevor Bassitt claimed the win in heat one in a time of 2:58.96, which, like the T&T team, was also a season’s best time for automatic qualification.

They were followed in the second position by the Japanese team of Fuga Sato, Kaito Kawabata, Julian Jrummi Walsh and Yuki Joseph Nakajima, which also produced a season’s best 3:01.53 time to be among the automatic qualifiers, and third-place Jamaica (Akeem Bloomfield, Jevaughn Powell, Karayme Bartley and Anthony Cox), following the USA and Japan teams with a season’s best time of 3:01.59 for the right to be among the title race.

Meanwhile, the Netherlands team of Isayah Boers, Terrence Agard, Nick Smidt and Ramsey Angela also produced a season’s best 3:03.14 for the fifth-place finish, but it proved to be insufficient to take them to the final.

Apart from T&T, the USA, Japan and Jamaica, the other finalists last night were, from heat two, Belgium (3:01.96), Czech (3:02.42), Poland (3:02.51) and France (3:03.13).
