The T&T quartet of Leah Bertrand, Michelle-Lee Ahye, Reyare Thomas (Abilene Wildcats), and Akilah Lewis (Concorde) missed out on qualification to the final of the 4x100m women’s relay final at the World Athletics Championships at the National Athletic Centre in Budapest, Hungary on Friday.

This after the T&T foursome, despite running a season-best time of 42.85 seconds, could only muster a fifth place finish in the first of two semifinal heats.

Jamaica, led by the legendary Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, won the heat in a season-best time of 41.70 and was joined in the gold medal race by Great Britain (42.33), and Switzerland (42.64) from the heat.

In semifinal heat two, the USA, minus 100m champion Sha’Carri Richardson, stormed to victory in a season-best time of 41.59 seconds followed by fellow qualifiers to the final, Ivory Coast who clocked an African record time of 41.90, Italy, in a national record time of 42.14, Netherlands in 42.53, and Poland in 42.65 as both nations sneaked ahead of Germany (42.78), and T&T (42.85) for the final two places in the final.

Meanwhile, T&T’s Keshorn Walcott sustained an injury while warming up yesterday and failed to start his men’s javelin qualifier.
