Tyra Gittens established a new Trinidad and Tobago record in the women’s pentathlon at the Charlie Thomas Invitational indoor meet in Texas, USA, last Saturday. The Texas A&M University student accumulated 4,276 points in the five-discipline event to improve on the 4,197 national standard she had established in 2018.

Gittens clocked 8.67 seconds for second spot in the pentathlon 60 metres hurdles. She topped the high jump with a 1.79 metres clearance and followed up with a 13.88m throw for first place in the shot put. Gittens was also the best athlete on show in the long jump, her 6.25m leap earning her top spot. And she was ninth in the 800m in two minutes, 36.20 seconds.Another Texas A&M athlete, Infinite Tucker, finished 14th overall in the men’s 400m. He clocked 48.35 seconds.

In Idaho, David Pierce won the Nike Boise Indoor Jacksons Invite men’s 200m event in 21.79 seconds. The Boise State University sprinter was seventh in the 60m final in 7.08. He had clocked 7.02 in the qualifying round.

At the FasTrak High School Championships, in Texas, Taejha Badal won the girls’ 400m in 56.96 seconds. The Concordia Lutheran High School student was second in the 200 in 24.56.

At the University of New Mexico Collegiate Classic, Jacob St Clair picked up men’s 400m silver. The University of Alabama quartermiler clocked 48.05 seconds. New Mexico Junior College’s Onil Mitchell was 25th in 54.19.

T&T sprinter Emmanuel Callender finished sixth in the men’s 60m final in 6.80 seconds. New Mexico Junior’s Tyrell Edwards was eighth in 6.82. In the semis, Callender clocked 6.82 and Edwards 6.79. Another New Mexico Junior student, Aaron Brewster, was 21st in 6.95 and did not progress to the championship race. In the opening round of qualifying, Callender got to the line in 6.85, while New Mexico Junior’s Onil Mitchell clocked 6.97 and did not advance.

University of Kentucky athlete Dwight St Hillaire finished eighth overall in the men’s 200m in 21.32 seconds. Callender was 14th in 21.52. Edwards and his New Mexico Junior teammate Jalen Purcell were 13th and 18th, respectively, clocking 21.44 and 21.59. In another men’s 200m event, Brewster clocked 22.01 for sixth spot overall.

Ayla Stanislaus was 11th fastest in the women’s 60m dash in 7.51 seconds. The New Mexico Junior College sprinter produced a 24.06 run for 14th spot in the 200. And Arizona State University’s Jeminise Parris was 14th in the women’s 60m hurdles in 8.59.

At the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational, in Nebraska, Che Lara bagged bronze in the men’s 400m. The Pratt Community College quartermiler got home in 47.91 seconds. Butler Community College’s Judah Taylor was eighth in 48.55.

Butler sprinter Jerod Elcock clocked 6.89 seconds for 16th spot overall in the men’s 60m dash. Pratt’s Kadesha Prescott got to the line in 24.82 to finish 17th in the women’s 200m. Barton Community College student Aquilla St Louis was 22nd in the women’s long jump at 5.29m. And Taylor and Elcock were 32nd and 37th, respectively, in the men’s 200m, clocking 22.20 and 22.42.

Dawnel Collymore finished fourth in the South Carolina Invitational women’s 800m event. The Benedict College senior got home in a personal best 2:10.38.
