Trinidad and Tobago will leave the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary without a medal.

The TT men’s 4×400-metre team exited in the semifinals on Saturday after finishing seventh out of nine teams in heat one.

The quartet of Renny Quow, Asa Guevara, Shakeem McKay and Jereem Richards stopped the clock at three minutes, 01.54 seconds (3:01.54).

TT were still in contention when Quow handed over to Guevara for the second leg.

But in the final 50m of his leg, Guevara faded and TT’s chances of progressing to the final were slipping away.

McKay tried to stay close to the front, but when he gave the baton to Richards TT were in sixth position.

Richards had a tough last leg and lost ground to end in seventh place.

The two-time World Championships medallist battled hard to be fit for the championships after tearing his plantar fasciitis at last month’s National Championships.

The US quartet won the heat in 2:58.47. India were second in 2:59.05 and Great Britain third in 2:59.42. Fourth-placed Botswana also clocked 2:59.42 to book a place in the final. The top three in each of the two heats qualified automatically for the final, along with the next two fastest times.
