AYLA Stanisclaus, Shaniqua Bascombe and Shakeem McKay each won two gold medals at the National Association of Athletic Administration/National Gas Company Track and Field Series One, held at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo yesterday.

The trio represented TT at past CARIFTA Games and will be hoping for more glory in 2019. Stanisclaus of Phoenix won the sprint double, to start her 2019 season in style. She won the girls under-20 100m final in 11.96 seconds, finishing ahead of Naomi Campbell (12.44) and Jeneil Morris (12.84).

Stanisclaus also crossed the finish line first in the girls under-20 200m final. The sprinters were separated into two heats with the gold being awarded to whoever clocked the fastest time. Stanisclaus won heat one in 23.93, to earn top spot overall ahead of Caliyah Wallaca of Cougars (25.51) and Abilene’s Brianna Lord (25.61).

Bascombe of Cougars earned gold in the girls under-17 100m finals in 12.14. The Point Fortin New Jets duo of Natasha Fox (12.98) and Malika Coutain (13.02) had to settle for second and third place respectively. Bascombe comfortably made it another gold when she won the girls under-17 200m final in 24.26, with her club-mate Karessa Kirton taking silver in 25.47 and Coutain claiming bronze in 26.18.

McKay of Abilene copped gold in both the boys under-17 400m and 200m events. McKay won the 400m event in 51.11, finishing ahead of Rinaldo Moore of Memphis in 51.69 and Kyle Beckles of Memphis in 51.95.

In the 200m event, McKay won gold in 22.69 and his club-mate Jasiah Franklin had to settle for second place in 23.15. Keone John of Memphis took bronze in 23.25.

The boys under-17 javelin gold was won by Sangre Grande Secondary’s Chavez Maloney with a 42.91m throw. Placing runner-up was school-mate Jaheim Hector (36.29m), with Keishon Sandy of Toco TAFAC (30.36m) taking the bronze.

The boys under-20 gold went to Fiver Rivers’ Selvon Rochford whose three throws were good enough for first place. His final effort of 56.64m was his best attempt. El Dorado East student Nathaniel Mathura, competing unattached, earned silver with a 50.11m heave. In third was Sangre Grande Secondary’s Kenchi Dial (39.58m).

A number of other field events also took place including discus, shot put and hammer throw.
