Richards 2nd in 200m at Tom Jones Memorial

T&T’s Jereem Richards clocked 20.30 seconds to finish runner-up in theÊMen’s 200 metres Dash Olympic Development at the University of Florida’s (UF) Tom Jones Memorial Invitational meet on Friday.

The 2018 Commonwealth Games 200m champion finished behind the United States’ Fred Kerley who won in 20.24. In third place was Erriyon Knighton in 20.39.

Richards, the 2017 London World Championship 200m bronze medallist, also faced the starter in the men’s 100m Dash Olympic Development and the Pure Athletics sprinter placed 13th with 11.36. The event was won by American Justin Gatlinb (Star Athletics) with 9.98 edging out Canada’s Andre De Grasse (9.99) of Tumbleweed Track Club at the line. Star Athletics Kenny Bednarek was third in 10.03.

T&T’s Dwight St Hillaire competed in the men’s 200m University and the University of Kentucky junior was a third-place finisher in 20.69 following schoolmate freshman Lance Lang (20.39) and Georgia’s Matthew Boling (20.43), respectively to the line in section one, the fastest of five sections, in the timed finals.

Later, St Hillaire ran the anchor leg in the 4x100m relay and his UK team placed second in section one and third overall with 39.26. Tumbleweed Track Club A which included De Grasse won the section with 39.19 while Tumbleweed’s B (39.23) team won section two andÊsecond overall.

T&T had two athletes feature in the women’s 100m Olympic Development including Pure Athletics sprinters Kelly-Ann Baptiste and Khalifa St Fort.

Former national sprint champion Baptiste placed fifth overall in a time of 11.33 after crossing fifth in section one of the timed finals. St Fort raced in section two and placed sixth to end in 13th spot in 11.62.

Winning the dash was Javianne Oliver of Star Athletics with 11.12 followed by AARP’s Tiana Bartoletta (11.16) and Tumbleweed Track Club’s Daryll Neita (11.26).
