NAAATT selects 13 athletes for World Juniors

Thirteen athletes have been selected by the NAAATT to represent T&T at the World Athletics Under-20 World Championship which takes place from August 1st-6th in Cali, Columbia.

The athletes – six girls and seven boys – comprise former captains of the T&T Carifta team to Jamaica in April, sprinters Shaniqua Bascombe and Shakeem Mc Kay, will both be on the front line, as the twin island republic seeks to add to medal tally at the level.

Bascombe, who just finished her last season as a junior athlete, will be looking forward to bettering her times in the finals of the relays. She will be competing in 100 metres and 200m sprints and the 4x100m Under-20 girls’ relay events.

Bascombe of Cougars, finished second in the 200m and third in the 100m events before finishing third in the Under-20 girls relay. She will be seeking to continue her winning ways after taking the 100m and 200m events at the NGC/NAAATT Junior Championships which took place in Tobago, last weekend.

McKay has made his mark at the Carifta Games at the Carifta level and has gone on to senior team for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, London.

McKay of Abilene ran well to be second in the 400m event at Carifta Games and ran another great 400m to be placed among the top men in the country. He will be seeking to go well in the 400m and 4x100m relay events.

The team also has a top high jumper, Aaron Antoine of Neon Wolves, the 2022 Carifta Games Under-20 boys’ champion in the lineup and he is expecting to repeat his Carifta Games gold medal championship form.

The manager of the World Championship team is Michelle Stoute who possesses the knowledge and attributes to ensure success. Here are all other athletes and track and field Supporters engaged at the Championships.
