MAJOR FACELIFT

04/06/2019

overnment plans to start with an estimated $150 million redevelopment and refurbishment of the iconic Skinner Park, the initial project of an integrated approach to developing the city of San Fernando.

Attorney General and San Fernando West MP Faris Al-Rawi said the project – to be undertaken by top-ranked bid winners Yorke Structures Ltd, and scheduled to be completed in 18 months – is a flagship signal to how future structures must be developed and tied to the Government’s Local Government Reform Bill, currently before Parliament.

That bill envisions City Corporations using property taxes from the constituencies and potential revenue from staging events to provide funding for the maintenance costs of the public infrastructure and facilities. Al-Rawi also said hundreds of jobs – skilled and unskilled labour in addition to spin-off employment – are to be created.
