Kelvin Johnson was a comfortable winner in the St Barnabas Anglican Church 5K Fun Run/Walk on September 24.

After an absence of two years due to COVID-19 restrictions, the event resurfaced with a smaller than the usual number of participants, 34 participants ranging in ages from 10 years to 72 years assembled at the starting point at Penal Rock Road Hindu School.

The race commenced at approximately 6.30 am and at the end, it was Johnson crossing the line in first place with a time of 17 minutes and 38 seconds to cop the men’s title.

Shervon York was a far-off second behind Johnson with a 19.31-clocking and narrowly ahead of third-placed Kelton Patrice with 19.49.

In the women’s category, it was Chantel Le Maitre cruising to victory with 22.23 ahead of defending champion Paula Bhagwandin

Bhagwandin, who won first place for the first three years of this event, was beaten into second place by newcomer Le Maitre. The three-time champion finished with a time of 27.57, ahead of Adelia Diaz Ali, who was third with 31.27.

Christopher Williams, at 72 years old, was the oldest participant, completing the course in 44.05, ahead of five much younger participants.
