Tyra Gittens secured silver in the women’s heptathlon at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1 Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Texas, USA, on Saturday night. The Texas A&M University sophomore accumulated 6,049 points in the seven-discipline event, falling just short of her national record total of 6,074.
After five of the seven disciplines, Gittens was leading the field with 4,818 points. But the Trinidad and Tobago athlete could only manage a 33.22 metres throw in the javelin and surrendered top spot to University of Texas senior Ashtin Zamzow, the American storming to the front with a big 49.56m effort.
