Tyra Gittens was in fine form on the weekend, bagging double silver at the Ted Nelson Invitational in Texas, USA.
Gittens cleared the bar at 1.82 metres to finish second in the women’s high jump. In the 60 metres hurdles final, the Texas A&M University student got home in 8.58 seconds to secure the runner-up. Gittens had clocked 8.57 to top her qualifying heat. And in the shot put, she was sixth with a 13.74m throw.
Shaquille Singuineau claimed silver in the men’s shot put. The University of Louisiana at Lafayette athlete threw the iron ball 16.10m.
At the Arkansas Invitational, in Arkansas, Caitlin Ragoonanan captured women’s triple jump bronze with an 11.81m effort. Ragoonanan and her University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff teammate Safiya John were 19th and fifth, respectively, in the long jump. John jumped 5.63m and Ragoonanan 4.95m. John was sixth in the high jump with a 1.55m clearance and sixth in the 60m hurdles at 8.87 seconds.
Arkansas at Pine Bluff junior Je-Risa James finished sixth in the women’s 800m with a two minutes, 20.02 seconds run. Her teammate, Franklyn Stanislaus went over the bar at 1.85m for eighth spot in the men’s high jump. In the long jump, Stanislaus and another Arkansas at Pine Bluff student, Clement Campbell were 10th and 17th, respectively, jumping 6.50m and 6.15m.
Ragoonanan and her twin sister and Arkansas at Pine Bluff teammate, Chelsea Ragoonanan finished 19th and 15th, respectively in the women’s 400m, clocking one minute, 00.40 seconds and 1:00.01. And in the men’s 60m hurdles, Stanislaus was 16th fastest in 9.82 seconds.
At the Air Force Invitational, in Colorado, Tamia Badal finished fourth in the women’s 60m hurdles. The University of Colorado freshman clocked 8.74 seconds. In Idaho, Boise State University’s David Pierce was fifth in the men’s 60m final in 6.99.
At the Dartmouth vs Columbia vs Yale meet, in New Hampshire, Jahi Hernandez secured sixth spot in the men’s 60m final in 6.99 seconds. The Columbia University student had clocked 6.96 in the qualifying round.
In Texas, Semoy Hackett was sixth in the Leonard Hilton Invitational women’s 60m dash in 7.61 seconds. The T&T sprinter was faster in the preliminaries, getting to the line in 7.53 for third spot in heat one.
At the Carl Lewis High School Invitational, also in Texas, Taejha Badal finished sixth in the girls’ 60m final in 7.60 seconds. The Concordia Lutheran High School student was seventh fastest in the 400m preliminaries at 57.20, but opted out of the finals.
In New York, Ako Hislop was seventh in the Penn 8 Team Select men’s 60m final. The Fairleigh Dickinson University sophomore got home in seven seconds flat. And at the Wichita State Shocker meet, in Kansas, Butler Community College freshman Judah Taylor clocked 6.97 in the men’s 60m preliminaries, and did not progress to the final.
