Beating the world...again

01/06/2019

A remarkable come-from-behind victory in the men’s 4×400 metres final put Trinidad and Tobago in the spotlight at the IAAF World Relays in Yokohama, Japan. Not for the first time, Machel Cedenio finished like a runaway freight train, the T&T anchorman reeling in his American counterpart Paul Dedewo on the home straight to ensure top spot for his country.

Despite cyclist Teniel Campbell staking strong claims with her bronze medal in the Elite Women’s road race at the Pan American Cycling Championships in Mexico, the effort of the 4x400m team was more than good enough to make them the stars for the month of May.

The focus was on Cedenio following T&T’s golden run. And this is understandable, given his amazing charge to the finish line. But there were three other stars on the day, Deon Lendore, Jereem “The Dream” Richards and Asa Guevara each doing his part to set things up for the fast-finishing anchor.
