At the National Association of Athletics Administration of T&T meet on Saturday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo, the Cougars athlete sprinted across the line in a time of 11.79 seconds to go under the PAJ qualifying time of 11.83 in the Girls’ Under-20 100 metres dash.
Bascombe finished ahead of Simplex Kyah La Fortune, who was a far-off second with 12.36 and third-place Kayla Caesar of One A Week with 12.57.
The Cougars sprinter also won the 200m but was unable to duplicate the PAJ (24.07)/WU20 (24.40) qualifying performance. She topped the half-lap event with a 24.67-clocking again respectively ahead of La Fortune (25.25) and Caesar (25.93).
The trio is tuning up for the Carifta Games (CAR) in Jamaica over the Easter weekend (April 16-18).
So to sprinter Revell Webster, who remains consistent in his tune-up for the three Championships. The Concorde athlete clocked 21.54 to again go under the PAJ standard of 21.62 and win the boys’ U-20 200m, comfortably ahead of Phoenix Athletics’ Jaden De Souza (22.05) and Cougars’ Jordan Noel (22.22).
At the Carifta Trials some two weeks ago, Webster achieved the standard with his 21.51-timing. He also met the 100m WU20 (10.61) and PAJ standard (10.60) in the preliminary round with 10.53 seconds and the final (10.52).
Hezekiel Romeo (Unattached) was the lone athlete on the day, achieving the qualifying mark for the Caribbean Games (CG U-23). He topped the men’s shot put (17.40m) with his best throw measuring 17.59m. In second place was Christop Crawford (Tobago Falcons) with 16.62m and third was Isaac Nicholls (Burnley) with 12.33m.
Janae De Gannes, despite already qualifying for three individual events but given her current vaccination status and North American, Central American and Caribbean’s (NACAC) position she was not listed on the Carifta team, continues to impress again going under the standard time in the Girls U-17 200m (24.68). The Concorde athlete won in 24.45 ahead of Diamond Paul of Point Fortin Net Jets (PFNJ) with 26.11 and Kaziah Peters (Simplex) with 26.21.
Kenika Cassar of Toco Tafac, another member of the Carifta team, continues to excel. She won the Girls U-17 javelin with 42.00m to better the 36.08m-standard for the upcoming CG U-23.
Carifta-bound Gianna Paul, Kaiyin Morris and Jaden James were also among the athletes excelling on the weekend as well.
Paul, who is named on the Carifta team, won the girl’s U-17 long jump with 5.53m again meeting the 5.34m-standard for the regional meet. De Gannes was second with 5.29m and Nathaniela King (Concorde) third in 4.99m
Morris (Cougars) won the boys U-17 400m (49.98 CAR) with 49.85 ahead of Abilene Wildcats’ Daeshaun Cole (51.31) and Dylan Woodruffe (Cougars) 52.34, respectively.
In the boys’ U-17 100m (11.20 CAR), the three finishers were under the Carifta qualifying time of 11.20 Woodruffe (11.06), Memphis Pioneers’ Jamario Russell (11.13) and Cougars’ Khadeem Ryan (11.18)
In the boy’s U-20 discus (48.75m CAR), Jaden James (Fatima College) topped with 49.25m.
