PORTIOUS WARREN earned women’s shot put silver at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1 Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Texas, USA, on Thursday night. The University of Alabama senior threw the iron ball 18.11 metres.
Warren just missed out on gold, American Samantha Noennig snatching the title from her grasp. The Arizona State University sophomore produced a personal best 18.14m effort.
Warren opened at 16.71m, but stepped up her game with 18.05, 18.03 and 18.11 in the next three rounds. The Trinidad and Tobago field athlete held the lead during this impressive sequence. Noennig, however, landed the big 18.14m throw in round five to move into the gold medal position. Warren tried, but could not regain top spot, completing her series at 17.98 and 17.27.
