For high drama and thrilling outcomes, the past week in sports was the best.

Think hard dear readers; jog your memories thoroughly and think of a week across the board when there were as many sensational contests as we witnessed from last Tuesday, straight up to Sunday.

First, there was Liverpool Football Club, attempting the seemingly improbable task of scoring four unanswered goals against a Barcelona team with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez on the pitch in order to get to the UEFA Champions League final.

Barcelona went to England with a three-goal advantage that seemed as safe as gold in Fort Knox. But Georginio Wijnaldum and Divock Origi shattered Barca’s sense of security and self belief with two goals apiece in a 4-0 win and 4-3 aggregate triumph that gave fresh meaning to “Anfield magic.”

The next day in Amsterdam, Holland, home side Ajax looked headed for the final after turning their 1-0 first leg advantage into a 3-0 hammer blow to Tottenham Hotspur’s final hopes at half-time. But then the balding Brazilian Spur, Lucas Moura came bursting through to tie up the contest with two goals in four minutes in the second half. And with everyone’s nerves on the sharpest of edges in the Johan Cruyff ArenA, Moura broke Dutch hearts into a million pieces with his turn and low, deadly.
