Cougars' Bascombe shows form at NGC Series

Two-time Carifta champion Shaniqua Bascombe showed good early season form when she won both the Girls Under-20 100 metres and 200m sprints on the second and final day of the National Amateur Athletics Association of T&T (NAAATT) National Gas Company (NGC)-sponsored Track & Field Series at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo on Sunday.

Bascombe of Cougars won the 100m dash in 11.70 seconds, well clear of clubmate Reneisha Andrews (11.97) and third-placed finisher Kyah La Fortune of Simplex who clocked 12.30.

In the 200m event, NACAC age-group champions Bascombe won in 24.53, ahead of Fortune (25.18) and Andrews (25.46), respectively.

Revell Webster of Concorde also completed the sprint double in the boys’ versions of the races. He clocked 11.0051 seconds to edge Phoenix’s Jaden De Souza (11.0058) at the line. In third place was Cougars’ Jordan Noel with 11.14.

In the half-lap event, Webster won in 21.95, comfortably ahead of De Souza (23.39) and Keone John (Memphis) with 22.45.

Dylan Woodruffe scored double wins as well in the boys’ U-17 200m and 400m events. The Cougars athlete won the 200m with a 22.26-timing and he was followed by clubmate Khadeem Ryan (22.89) in second spot and in third place, Hakeem Chinapoo (Simplex) with 23.07.

In the one-lap event, Woodruffe won in 50.16 with another clubmate Kaiyin Morris in second with 50.78 and Abilene Wildcats’ Daeshaun Cole in second with 51.21.
