Lisa Wickham clocked a personal best 7.28 seconds to strike gold in the women’s 60 metres dash at the Buccaneer Invitational indoor meet in Tennessee, USA, on Saturday. Wickham’s Tennessee Tech University teammate, Anya Akili was 16th in the women’s 200m in 26.14.
Ayla Stanislaus was golden in the University of New Mexico Team Invitational women’s 60m in 7.37 seconds. The New Mexico Junior College sprinter also competed in the 200m, finishing third overall in 24.11.
New Mexico Junior College had two representatives in the men’s 60m final. Jalen Purcell was fifth in 6.77 seconds, and Tyrell Edwards was seventh in 6.81. In the qualifying round, Emmanuel Callender was 11th fastest at 6.84, and did not progress to the final. Aaron Brewster was also eliminated, the New Mexico Junior College student finishing 20th overall in 7.00.Edwards and Brewster were 11th and 20th, respectively, in the 200. Edwards clocked 21.63 seconds and Brewster 22.05.
At the Wendy’s/Pittsburg State Invitational, in Kansas, Kadesha Prescott won the women’s 60m final in 7.39 seconds. The Pratt Community College sophomore had clocked 7.38 in the qualifying round. Prescott picked up silver in the 200 in 24.49.
University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff sophomore Safiya John topped the women’s 60m hurdles field in 8.60 seconds. John was sixth in the long jump with a 5.48 metres leap.
Lincoln University of Missouri freshman Carlon Hosten earned men’s 60m silver in 6.71 seconds. In the semifinal round, Butler Community College’s Jerod Elcock was ninth overall in 6.80, and did not progress to the final. In the opening round, Elcock and Oklahoma City University junior Ian Thomas were sixth and 29th, respectively, in 6.85 and 6.96.
Hosten bagged bronze in the 200m in 21.37 seconds. Butler’s Judah Taylor was seventh in 21.55, while Elcock had to settle for 30th spot in 22.23.
Pratt’s Che Lara finished third in the men’s 400m in 47.73 seconds. Taylor clocked 47.91 for fourth spot. Arkansas at Pine Bluff’s Clement Campbell Jr. was seventh in the men’s triple jump with a 14.08m effort. Another Pine Bluff athlete, Franklyn Stanislaus was 38th in the men’s long jump at 6.25m and 42nd in the 60m hurdles in 8.79 seconds.
In Minnesota, Kion Benjamin seized silver in the Jack Johnson Classic men’s 60m dash. The University of Minnesota freshman got to the line in 6.85 seconds.
At the Villanova Invitational, in New York, Andre Marcano finished second in the men’s 60m dash in 6.87 seconds. Columbia University freshman Jahi Hernandez was seventh in 7.03.
In Pennsylvania, Marie-Therese Cooper secured second spot in the Susquehanna Challenge women’s long jump with a 4.85m leap. Cooper was third in the triple jump at 10.66m. Her St Francis University (Pennsylvania) teammate, Akil Boisson claimed bronze in the men’s 400m in 53.22 seconds.
At the Metropolitan Indoor Championships, in New York, Fairleigh Dickinson University sophomore Ako Hislop secured men’s 60m bronze in 6.94 seconds. St Francis University (New York) students Daniel Hernandez and Shomari John were 12th and 30th, respectively, in 7.13 and 7.44.
Michaela Neils finished fourth in the women’s 60m final. The Long Island University (Brooklyn) sprinter got home in 7.68 seconds. In the men’s 200m, Hislop was fifth in 22.22, with Jahi Hernandez sixth in 22.24. Daniel Hernandez returned a time of one minute, 08.91 seconds for 18th spot in the men’s 500m. John was 25th in 1:16.29.
Tyra Gittens finished fourth in the Texas Tech Invite women’s high jump event with a 1.84m clearance. The Texas A&M University junior was 15th in women’s 60m hurdles qualifying in 8.74 seconds. Boise State University’s David Pierce was 28th in men’s 60m qualifying in 7.11 and 34th in the men’s 200m in 21.90.
At the Indiana University Relays, University of Alabama’s Jacob St Clair was fourth fastest in the men’s 200m in 21.84 seconds. University of Illinois student Kashief King was 20th in 22.77. St Clair clocked 48.72 for sixth spot in the 400.
Cherisse Murray threw the iron ball 16.09m to finish fifth in the women’s shot put. Her Alabama teammate, Timothy Frederick was 18th in the men’s 60m in 7.08 seconds, while King was 21st in 7.16.
At the Razorback Invitational, in Arkansas, Akanni Hislop finished fourth in the men’s 200m in 20.83 seconds. The Louisiana State University (LSU) sophomore was 16th in the 60m in 6.81.
In Texas, University of Louisiana at Lafayette senior Shaquille Singuineau produced a 16.49m effort for fifth spot in the Houston G5 & Super 22 Invitational men’s shot put event. Nathan Farinha finished sixth in the elite men’s 60m dash final in 6.89 seconds. Semoy Hackett was eighth in the elite women’s 60m final in 7.56 after clocking 7.54 in her qualifying heat.
Tamia Badal finished fifth in the Colorado Invitational women’s 60m hurdles in 8.62 seconds. The University of Colorado freshman was seventh fastest in the 200m in 25.81.
In South Carolina, Dawnel Collymore finished ninth in the Carolina Challenge women’s 800m event. The Benedict College junior got home in 2:14.35.
At the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White meet, Aaron Lewis finished 17th overall in the men’s 200m in 22.20 seconds. His Coppin State University teammate, Nku Henry was 27th in the men’s 400m in 52.47.
