Nero wins in Wichita

Tonya Nero was golden at the Wichita State College Invitational indoor meet in Kansas, USA, last Friday. The Trinidad and Tobago distance running star topped the women’s 3,000 metres field in 10 minutes, 13.57 seconds.

At the DeSchriver Invitational, in Pennsylvania, Shania LeMaitre won the women’s 400m event in 1:00.13. Her Holy Family University (Pennsylvania) teammate, Renaldo Alleyne-Noriega was third in the men’s 200m in 23.18 seconds.

There were podium finishes too for two other Holy Family/T&T athletes. Antonia Barker bagged women’s 200m bronze in 27.20 seconds, and Anthinise Barker finished third in the women’s long jump with a 5.05 metres leap.In the women’s 55m dash, Antonia and Anthinise were 10th and 14th, respectively, clocking 7.84 and 7.94.

In Iowa, Aquila St Louis picked up Black and Gold Premier women’s 60m hurdles silver in 8.82 seconds. The Barton Community College student was 10th in the high jump with a 1.55m clearance, 13th in the long jump at 5.26m, and 19th in the 200m in 26.65. University of Iowa freshman Ianna Roach threw 13.66m for bronze in the women’s shot put.

At the Swiss National Indoor Championships in Magglingen, Switzerland, Mikel Thomas finished second in the men’s 60m final. The T&T athlete got home in 6.89 seconds.

In London, England, Nicholas Landeau secured fifth spot in the BMC Lee Valley Open men’s 800m “A” race. The T&T middle distance runner clocked 1:52.85.

At the Carolina Challenge, in South Carolina, USA, Alisha St Louis finished seventh in the women’s invitational triple jump event with a 12.03m effort. In the long jump, the Johnson C. Smith University student was 10th at 5.34m. Tusculum University’s Kyle Stanley was 39th overall in the men’s 1 mile event in 4:35.85.

At the Houston G5 & Super 22 Invitational, in Texas, Jeunice Maxime finished 36th overall in women’s 60m qualifying, and did not progress to the next round. The Grambling State University senior got to the line in 8.03 seconds.
