Deon Lendore outclassed his rivals in the men’s 300 metres event at the Texas A&M Invitational indoor meet in Texas, USA, last Saturday. The 2012 Olympic 4x400m bronze medallist secured gold in 33.21 seconds.
Semoy Hackett produced a 39.24-second run for third spot overall in the women’s 300m. Texas A&M University’s Infinite Tucker was fifth in the men’s 400m in 48.02.
Tyra Gittens clocked 8.57 seconds in the women’s 60m hurdles heats to advance to the final sixth fastest. The Texas A&M University student, however, did not face the starter in the championship race. Gittens was 22nd in the women’s 800m in two minutes, 34.34 seconds. Nathan Farinha was seventh fastest in the men’s 60m heats in 6.96 seconds, but opted out of the final.At the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Indoor Championships, in Alabama, Clement Campbell Jr struck gold in the men’s long jump with a 7.50 metres leap. The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff athlete was 11th in the 60m dash in 6.99 seconds and 18th in the 200 in 22.52.
Another Arkansas at Pine Bluff student, Safiya John topped the women’s pentathlon with 3,703 points – a new SWAC Champs record. John earned silver in the individual high jump, long jump and triple jump events. She cleared 1.63m in the high, disturbed the sand at 5.77m in the long, and produced a 12.01m effort in the triple. John’s Pine Bluff teammate, Caitlin Ragoonanan was ninth in the long jump at 5.34m and 10th in the triple at 11.03.
John bagged 60m hurdles bronze in 8.70 seconds. Another Pine Bluff student, Franklyn Stanislaus finished fourth in the men’s heptathlon with 4,617 points. He was fifth in the individual high jump with a 1.94m clearance and 13th overall in the 60m hurdles in 9.84 seconds. Pine Bluff’s Je-Risa James was eighth in the women’s 800m in 2:16.28. And Grambling State University’s Jeunice Maxime was 22nd in the women’s 400m in 1:00.71.
In Minneapolis, University of Minnesota student Kion Benjamin was golden in the Minnesota Cold Classic men’s 60m dash in 6.80 seconds. Another Minnesota sprinter, Akilah Lewis triumphed in the women’s 60m in 7.59.
At The Woodlands Invitational outdoor meet in Texas, Taejha Badal won the girls’ 100m dash in a wind-assisted 12.16 seconds. The Concordia Lutheran High School student also won the 400m event, getting home in 56.49.
In New York, Andre Marcano picked up silver in the Armory Last Chance indoor meet men’s 60m event. He got to the line in 6.78 seconds. In Kansas, Ian Thomas finished second in the Steve Miller Open men’s 60m dash. The Oklahoma City University sprinter clocked 6.88.
At the Mid-South Conference Indoor Championships, in Ohio, Iantha Wright seized women’s 60m silver in 7.62 seconds. The Life University athlete claimed 200m bronze in 25.61. And in the 400, she was fourth in 59.43.
At the Louisiana State University (LSU) Twilight meet, in Louisiana, LSU’s Akanni Hislop grabbed men’s 60m bronze in 6.75 seconds, after clocking 6.72 in the qualifying round. In his first competitive outing since 2016, Richard “Torpedo” Thompson finished sixth in the 60m final in 6.79. The 2008 Olympic 100m silver medallist won his heat in 6.84. LSU’s Xavier Mulugata was ninth overall in the preliminaries in 6.91, and did not progress to the final.
At the Texas Tech Matador Qualifier, Jalen Purcell finished third in the men’s 200m event in 21.43 seconds. Purcell’s New Mexico Junior College teammate, Aaron Brewster was ninth overall in 21.86. Purcell finished fourth in the 60m in 6.76. Another New Mexico Junior sprinter, Onil Mitchell was ninth fastest in the preliminaries in 6.92, while Brewster clocked 6.95 for 11th spot.
Western Texas College athlete Shikyla Walcott finished fourth in the women’s 60m final in 7.68 seconds. She was 11th overall in the 200 in 25.22.
At the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region VI Indoor Championships, in Kansas, Barton Community College’s Aquila St Louis earned bronze in the women’s pentathlon with 3,074 points and bronze in the individual 60m hurdles in 8.89 seconds. She clocked 8.86 in the preliminary round.
Pratt Community College student Kadesha Prescott finished third in the women’s 60m in 7.55 seconds. In the qualifying round, she got to the line in 7.50. Prescott was fifth overall in the 200m preliminaries in 24.73, but did not face the starter in the finals.
Pratt’s Che Lara was fifth in the men’s 200m in 21.63 seconds. He clocked 21.59 in the qualifying round. Butler Community College’s Jerod Elcock was 12th overall in 21.80. Cowley College’s Lesley Zinara finished fifth in the women’s 600m in 1:39.44 and sixth in the 800 in 2:29.05. Butler’s Judah Taylor was 10th fastest in the men’s 400m in 48.92.
At the University of South Carolina (USC) Indoor Open, Benedict College’s Dawnel Collymore bagged women’s 800m bronze in 2:13.71. Johnson C. Smith University’s Alisha St Louis finished third in the women’s triple jump with a 12.02m effort.
In New York, Ako Hislop sprinted to bronze in the Northeast Conference (NEC) Indoor Championship men’s 60m dash in 6.93 seconds. The Fairleigh Dickinson University student produced a 6.92 run in the preliminaries. Hislop was fourth in the 200 finals in 21.70, after clocking 21.69 in the qualifying round.
Long Island University (LIU) Brooklyn athlete Michaela Neils finished fourth in the women’s 60m in 7.69 seconds. She was fifth in the 200 in 25.07. St Francis University’s Marie-Therese Cooper was 10th in the women’s long jump with a 5.15m leap and 18th in the triple jump at 10.14.
Sparkle McKnight finished fourth overall in the Arkansas Qualifier women’s 400m in 53.54 seconds. Lincoln University of Missouri sprinter Carlon Hosten was fourth in the men’s 60m final in 6.84 seconds, three-hundredths of a second slower than the 6.81 he had produced in the preliminaries. Hosten was also fourth fastest in the 200, getting to the line in 21.42.
At the World Athletics Indoor Tour meet in Lievin, France, Keston Bledman finished eighth in his men’s 60m heat in 6.80 seconds, and did not progress to the final.
