Another silver for Guevara

08/07/2020

Asa Guevara picked up silver in the men’s 300 metres event at the V12 Summer Games in Florida, USA, on Sunday.

The Trinidad and Tobago athlete got to the line in 32.60 seconds to finish behind Bahamian Steven Gardiner, the winner in 31.83, and ahead of American Quintaveon Poole (33.48). Gardiner’s clocking was a new Bahamas national record and the fastest time in the world this year. Gardiner, the reigning 400m world champion, and Guevara are training partners at the Empire Athletics club.

Two Saturdays ago, also in Florida, Guevara was second to Gardiner in a personal best 32.55 seconds. That run earned the 24-year-old fourth spot on the all-time T&T outdoor 300m performance list, behind national record holder Lalonde Gordon (31.92), Ian Morris (32.27) and Renny Quow (32.36).

Another T&T athlete, Jesaiah Jones claimed bronze in the Boys 15-18 200m and 400m events at the V12 Summer Games. Jones clocked 22.23 seconds in the 200 and 50.10 in the longer event.

There were podium finishes too for Hilenn James in the Czech Republic, on Saturday. James secured silver in the women’s shot put with a 14.95 metres throw. And in the discus, the T&T field athlete landed the implement 45.95m to bag bronze.

Also on Saturday, Keston Bledman was fourth in heat five of the men’s 100m event at the Showdown in Otown meet, in Florida. The T&T sprinter clocked 10.46 seconds, and did not progress to the final.

Taejha Badal finished second in the girls’ 15-16 100m dash at the Lions Relays, in Texas, two Saturdays ago. The T&T athlete got to the line in a wind-assisted 11.89 seconds. And on June 16, at the Track is Back #1 meet, also in Texas, Badal won 100m and 200m races in 12.26 and 24.81.
