Emmanuel Callender grabbed top spot in the men’s 200 metres event at the Velocity Fest 3 meet, in Jamaica, on Saturday. The Trinidad and Tobago sprinter got to the line in a wind-assisted 21.38 seconds.
Callender finished first in section three and ninth overall in the 100m dash in 10.39. Julian Forte was the fastest man on the day, clocking a windy 9.96 to finish ahead of fellow-Jamaican Yohan Blake (10.07) in the sixth and final section.
Two Saturdays ago, at the Velocity Fest 2 meet, Callender clocked 10.65 seconds in the 100m and 21.77 in the 200. And on July 11, at the Velocity Fest 1 meet, the 2011 Pan American Games 100m bronze medallist clocked 10.91 in the century and 21.99 in the longer sprint.
At the Back to the Track meet in Florida, USA, on Friday, T&T sprinter Keston Bledman was 11th overall in the men’s 100m finals in 10.44 seconds.
American Noah Lyles was golden in a wind-aided 9.93, with second spot going to Canadian Andre De Grasse in 9.97 (windy).
In the qualifying round, Bledman was 14th fastest with a windy 10.39 run. American Trayvon Bromell clocked a wind-legal 9.90, but opted out of the finals. De Grasse was also fast in the preliminaries, winning his heat in 9.97. Lyles, meanwhile, clocked 10.04.
Hilenn James was in winners’ row at a meet in the Czech Republic, two Saturdays ago. The T&T thrower struck gold in the women’s shot put with a 15.09 metres effort. James threw 47.96m to secure silver in the discus.
At the July 10-12 West Coast Junior Olympics, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, Taejha Badal earned a complete set of medals in the girls’ 17-19 category. The T&T athlete was golden in the 400m in 57.36 seconds, seized silver in the 100 with a 12.28 run, and bagged bronze in the 200 in 24.74.
