GOLDEN WRIGHT

06/07/2019

ANDWUELLE WRIGHT was in record-breaking form at the North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Under-18 & Under-23 Track and Field Championships in Queretaro, Mexico, yesterday, leaping to men’s under-23 long jump gold with a superb 8.25 metres effort.

Wright’s big jump was a new Trinidad and Tobago record, bettering the 8.23m leap he had produced at the 2018 National Championships. The 8.25m jump was also a new NACAC Under-23 Championship record, improving on the 8.03m standard established back in 2006 by Cuban Wilfredo Martinez. And there was icing on the cake for Wright, the 21-year-old Tobago jumper landing three centimetres beyond the 8.22m Olympic qualifying distance.
