Gwendolyn Smith wins javelin gold at World Masters

GWENDOLYN Smith won gold for Trinidad and Tobago in the W55 javelin event at the 2022 World Masters Athletics meet in Tampere, Finland, on Sunday.

Smith competing in the 55-59 women’s age group grabbed gold with a top throw of 37.50 metres on her fifth throw.

On her other attempts, Smith threw 36.16m, 34.69m, 34.70m, 37.49m and 36.01m.

Kristiina Peltola of Finland took silver with a 33.46m effort and Llona Kojalovica of Latvia finished third with a 32.17m throw.

On Thursday, Smith copped silver in the women’s 55-59 shot put with a 13.18m heave.
